So, you like running, and you like helping nature.
That’s why we decided to put those two things together and take some action/fun!
Let’s do some plogging!
What is “plogging”? Born in Scandinavia, plogging is the combination of jogging and picking up rubbish, helping the environment while keeping yourself active. How good is that?!
Join us in a fun and dynamic plogging event!
Not a runner? Not to worry!
We will have a walking group to collect all the small bits the runners might miss.
The event will be done in collaboration with the Yarra Riverkeeper Association, an organisation that advocates for protecting the Yarra River, also known as Birrarung.
By helping clean the banks, our waterways can be healthier and reduce the ocean's plastic damage. Every bit counts!
What's involved?
A cleanup session of 1 hr approx. Either walking or jogging, everyone is welcome!
What's included?
All cleanup equipment (gloves, bags, etc.)
Cleanup Supervisor with First Aid Cert to keep you safe and sound through your volunteer experience
Snacks and refreshments at the end.
What should you bring?
Clothes according to weather conditions, including comfy shoes
A reusable water bottle
Lots of smiles!
How to arrive?
Burnley Harbour is just next to the Main Yarra Trail, on the north bank right across Herring Island. You might need to walk 5-10 minutes. You have a few options on Public Transport, such as trams along Chapel/Church St, Trains at Burnley, East Richmond and South Yarra stations, and parking by the McConchie Reserve. The best way to search on your phone is "Burnley Bouldering Wall". We will be right next to it.
What is required from you:
1. All attendants need to have or have applied to have a Working With Children Check. This is FREE, and you can apply for it by clicking here. By attending, you acknowledge having this documentation.
2. All attendants will need to be fully vaccinated*. All volunteers need to sign upon arrival. There will be a Check-In QR code you will need to scan during the registration. Just say hi to Karin, and she will give you a hand.
3. To advise the event team if you have any illness or physical conditions that can put you at risk. We want to make sure everyone has a fantastic volunteer experience with us. If you happen to have a condition that might compromise undertaking some of the tasks, we will find something for you :)
For any questions, feel free to email us at hello@theplasticrunner.com.au!
*We understand how personal are individual choices. As a registered nonprofit, we must follow the Victorian government COVID guidelines for social gatherings. If you don't have your vaccination certificate or don't feel comfortable sharing this information but still want to support your Yarra River, contact us! We would love to chat about other ways to volunteer remotely.
If you can't make it, please SHARE :D Let's spread the love for our trails!
