Single Use Ain't Sexy

One of the expressions that I have heard the most during these strange pandemic times is « Have you washed your hands? ». Practising good personal hygiene is more important than ever before, but unfortunately this is resulting in increased plastic waste.

Yes, plastic. Since the COVID-19 outbreak was declared last January, the use of plastic has increased dramatically, mainly represented as PPE, hand sanitizer bottles, bottled water, takeaway containers, bags, and tons of different kinds of packaging materials.

Hence, we want to dedicate our first blog entry of this year (I know, long vacation!) to tell you about an Australian start-up that recently launched an eco-friendly soap to enable hand washing without plastic waste. I agree, it sounds crazy and unbelievable, yet it is true, and all of you deserve to know about "Single Use Ain’t Sexy" products.

Josh Howard, Single Use Ain’t Sexy’s CEO, emphasizes the current urgent human health crisis as well as the ongoing environmental crisis caused by plastic pollution. That is why Josh and his team are working tirelessly to address both issues, offering people a 100% recyclable hand wash product that consists of dissolvable hand soap tablets and reusable dispensers.

How does it work? The non-toxic tablets foam up when they are mixed with water and pumped through the bottle. When the liquid foam solution runs out, the bottle can be refilled with tap water, and a new tablet added. In other words, you don't need to buy a new plastic hand wash bottle every time you are running out of it. You only need to get a new soap tablet.

This journey started one year ago when Josh finished one more bottle of plastic hand soap, and he threw it in the bin on a pile of other single-use plastic bottles, which probably sounds like something that has happened to you several times, and there it was! Josh had a moment of enlightenment that set him on a path to starting ‘Single Use Ain’t Sexy’ as an effort to reduce his single-use plastic consumption, while also providing an easy and affordable solution for others.

To sum up, we want you to know figures: each time someone gets one of Single Use Ain’t Sexy’s reusable soap bottles, it saves up to 25 single-use plastic bottles from going into landfill each year. On top of that, Josh and his team are already working on a long-term approach, and they will soon be releasing a full home suite of eco-friendly products.
